Moana Festival-Important Update from Sustainable Future Working Group
Unfortunately, in the end,we were unable to confirm a berth for the Daldy on the City side. The location allocated by the Festival organisers was not suitable for a vessel of the size and weight of the Daldy, and we were not offered a suitable alternative. We will still be attending the Festival however, and in conjunction with the Steam Society will be displaying models of the Daldy, and have Daldy merchandise available for sale. For that we will need volunteers to assist as Ambassadors at the Exhibition Centre as before. The Festival runs from 10 am on Friday 1 March to 6 pm Sunday 3 March.
BUT WAIT …LIVE STEAM EVENT!
With our programme having been organised around the Festival, we will proceed as planned to raise steam and have the safety valves certified. This means that we will have the ship available for viewing in Devonport as a live exhibit. To do that we will still require volunteer support:
- Crew-stokers, deckhands
- Ambassadors on the ship to show people around
NOTE: We will now NOT be offering refreshments. We’re in Devonport, after all, and there are any amount of amenities in the area. If you can help, please email John Pratt- machinesthatcount@me.com
Give a little Update
Funds urgently needed
We need about $170,000 to bring the tug up to Survey and fully operational again. We’ve made significant progress, with the valves and fittings having passed examination, and new insulation installed on the boilers. We still need to slip the ship however, to enable a hull inspection and to clean the hull and propellers. To that end we’ve launched a fresh campaign on Givealittle: https://givealittle.co.nz/cause/were-slipping
Alternatively you can still donate to the Daldy on our website: https://daldy.co.nz/preservation-society
